It comes out of the box razor sharp and holds its edge through repeated heavy usage. The knife itself is solid and feels heavy, fits well in the sleeve without slippage. It sliced its way through thick nylon rope like butter, impressing the hell out of my buddies. In fact after seeing that justing holding it made them nervous.
